Animals you can see in Rio San Juan
It's easy to spot wildlife in the woods around Sabalos. Sometimes the howler monkey's get so close that they actually wake you up in the morning, leaving you with a very unique and exotic sensation. Here is what you are likely to see:

Primates
There’s lots of howler monkeys and Whiteface-monkeys around Sabalos. We take you on trips so that you can get close to these fantastic animals. Try to scream at a pack of howler monkeys and you will discover that they will answer you back in their own very special manner.

Reptiles and Amphibians
As the river San Juan is so rich on fish this also attracts predators like the Caiman (see picture above). We arrange both day and night trips where we go "photo hunting" for this majestic animal.

You can also see poison arrow frogs of all kinds of colours and shape. See species such as the Dentrobates pumilio, the Phyllobates lugubris or the Dentrobates auratus in the nearby rainforest just 20 meters away from the cabins!

Birds, Butterflies and other insects
A lot different species of birds live around the lodge, and you will see many migratory birds from North America.
The biodiversity of Sabalos and its surroundings also attracts beautiful butterflies of all the colours of the rainbow. And if your in to big beetles and hairy spiders you can just go with our guide into the rainforest and he will find it for you.

Dear visitors
Please do not introduce any wild animal to our environment, and we do not support to take away any animal from our environment.
